5 Reasons You Should Invest In A DNA Air Filter For Your Motorcycle

The filters you use on your motorcycle might not be the first thing which comes to mind for most riders when they think about improving performance, but they play a big role. That’s why in our latest blog we’re taking a look at why you should invest in a DNA High Performance Motorcycle Air Filter.

We’ve been sole UK distributors for DNA Filters for over 15 years, so we’re big believers in what they can do for performance. We could have spent all day talking about the different benefits they can bring to your bike, but we know time is money, so we’ve narrowed down our top 5 reasons why you should buy a DNA Air Filter for your bike below. Keep reading to find out more…

What Is A DNA Performance Air Filter and Why Is It Different To A Stock Filter?

If you’ve not heard of DNA Air Filters before, this is a good place to start before we get stuck into the reasons for buying one! To put it simply and without getting too deep into the technical differences, most stock filters will be paper filters which need to be replaced after a certain amount of time/distance travelled, the paper material is thick but porous. A DNA Air Filter is an oil gauzed filter which uses layers of fabric coated in oil, but rather than having to replace it, they can be cleaned, re-oiled and they’re good to go again, without having to buy and replace which is common with OEM filters.

Oil Gauze Filter vs. Paper Filtera

Paper filters main benefit are blocking out particles and whilst they give good enough air flow, the main priority they’re used for is to protect the engine by blocking the transmission of road debris, dust and other tiny particles which can make it into the airbox. DNA filters will also protect the engine by blocking these particles to the airbox, but in a slightly different way. Particles are removed as they stick to the oil on the fabric of the filter. They’ll also allow air to flow at a faster rate than stock filters as the material is more porous. Generally speaking, DNA filters are the best choice for anyone looking for maximum performance from their bike, especially if you’re planning on upgrading your exhaust or remapping.

1. DNA Air Filters Have a Lifetime Warranty

So now we know what the difference is between a stock filter and a DNA one, here’s the first reason you should buy one - the lifetime guarantee. That’s right, it’s not a typo we meant LIFETIME. All their filters all come with a lifetime guarantee meaning that any filter will last the lifetime of your vehicle. Not only is it better for the environment as most paper filters end up in landfill, but it’s also better for you economically.

The filters do need to be washed roughly every year or so (or as a guide every 15,000-30,000km) to keep it in top condition and for it to continue to provide the best benefits to your motorcycle. To keep them clean, you’ll need the right fluids for cleaning and replacing the oil and you can view and buy DNA Air Filter Service Kits here.

2. The Flow Of The Filter Remains Unchanged Even In Extreme Conditions

Next on the list is the performance of the filter, even in the most challenging conditions. DNA knows full well how important it is that you maintain the same level of performance, no matter what terrain or weather you’re riding in which makes them the perfect filter no matter the bike you have.

They have a rigorous R&D department and test the filters in the harshest environments on earth - such as the Dakar rally. DNA filters were tested on the course which makes its way through Argentina, the Andes and through the Atacama desert in Chile which is known for its ‘Fesh-Fesh’ fine powder desert sand which they successfully kept out of the race engines outperforming other foam filters in use. They can even be fully submerged in water and still work… If that doesn’t tell you everything you need to then nothing will.

3. They Will Increase Horsepower and Acceleration

DNA Filters work by smoothing out the air flow stream and as it passes through it reduces the turbulence and sends clean air to the engine intake which leads to increased torque and power, giving you more horsepower and more acceleration, which we know is a BIG plus with riders everywhere. The smooth air flow stream is a very important factor and you’ll notice that power decreases in dyno tests without a filter as the air circulation is turbulent.

As we’ve mentioned earlier in this article, the filter itself will only be part of a wider plan to optimise your bikes output and performance, other factors such as a performance exhaust and remapping the bike should be considered alongside a filter to truly see the effects of what a DNA filter can do for you.

4.  Your Bike Will Breathe Better With Increased & Clear Air Flow

Increased air flow for more power isn’t the only benefit you’ll see for your engine though, DNA filters use innovative technology to block and capture what could be overtime harmful particles making their way into the engine. This not only helps your bike run more efficiently, it can also extend its life and give you more miles.

As we’ve mentioned above the filters have been tested and proven to keep out even the finest dust particles from powdering sand in the deserts of South America, so with that in mind there’s no feasible terrain you won’t be protected with a cleaner engine giving you a better ride.

5. Suitable for Use On Road and Off Road

This one might be obvious at this point, but they’re suitable for both on and off road bikes. Not only suitable, they’ll still help improve performance whether you’re on the old dusty trail or on streets and roads. The engine is the core of your bike, so if you can protect your engine and improve its performance all with one small change, then it’s got to be a no brainer right? So now there’s only one thing left to do...
